This 1977 session, produced and coordinated by the late vibraphonist Lionel Hampton (who also joined the personnel) is a proof of the state of jazz in the late '70s from one of its masterminds, and is a statement of Hampton's artistic "rebirth." The tracks are varied and embrace the whole compositive universe of Mingus' career, and three originals are also included. Two more songs from the same session are contained on this CD: "So Long Eric," famous for being contained in the triple album The Charles Mingus Great Concert, and the standard "It Might As Well Be Spring" by Rodgers & Hammerstein.
