Best known for her work with Duke Ellington, Lillian Greenwood recorded these sides from 1950-53. The tracks were backed by Roy Milton's Solid Senders, while backing on the cuts comes from Little Willie Littlefield and the Johnny Otis band, among others. Hers was a unique blend of gospel and blues - Duke Ellington described her voice as a mixture of Ella Fitzgerald, Marian Anderson, Dinah Washington and Mahalia Jackson. Sleevenotes were written by Opal Nations.
