The Scamps have the honor of being the longest-standing continuously active black jump and jive combo in the U.S. They have obviously undergone many personnel changes since they started out in the '30s, but the Five Scamps recently cut a new CD, and they still perform annually in Kansas. This 21 track CD is based on their major label recordings from 1947-48, and it includes 12 previously unreleased songs made before they went on to record for Columbia. The sleeve-notes and discography are by Opal Nations, who is writing a forthcoming article on the band for Blues & Rhythm.
