Actress Harriet Walter, joined by fellow actors Peter Blythe, John Killoran and Diane Beck, read dramatic excerpts from the five of Shakespeare's great tragedies, "Macbeth," "Hamlet," "Romeo & Juliet," "King Lear" and "Antony & Cleopatra". Harriet and her colleagues were performers in the Royal Shakespeare Company's presentation of "Macbeth" at Stratford. This CD was recorded at Charlecote Park, where Shakespeare had allegedly been caught poaching deer as a boy. The recordings are interspersed with music played by the Broadside Band, who play the earliest known versions of music associated with Shakespeare's plays on instruments of the period.
