Chicago-based drummer and vocalist Sam Lay began his career backing artists such as Bo Diddly on recording sessions for Chess Records. He joined the seminal Butterfield Blues Band in the 1960s and played on Bob Dylan's "Highway 61" album. He has worked with Lightnin’ Hopkins, Magic Sam, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker, and many others. Fronting his own band he has been actively playing club dates, festivals and recording. This Nashville studio session was recorded in January of 2002. Sam and his band perform unique versions of some great blues standards.
