“Escucha!” (Listen!) was recorded in N.Y.C. in 2000 where Luis now resides. The musicians on this album take us through Pan-American traditions from N.Y. to Rio through Central America, and Caribbean-Latin grooves of many varieties abound. There are the joyous rumba rhythms of the song “Escucha” and the traditional tune “Guaguanco” from Cuba. The Caribbean sets the scene for “Shining Star,” while “Noviembre Susurro Y Cumbia” emerges out of Colombian Cumbia rhythms (this is a composition by Hector Martignon - Luis’ Latin soul brother). “Se Eu Soubesse” is in the Brazilian style, as is “Sabe Voce,” featuring the vocals of Valtinho Anastacio.
