FOR RETURNS ONLY. Fiver's third album for Devil in the Woods is ambitious, but in the sense that Fiver is coming together as a band. The band strives for something passionate, but also for something smooth. Frontman David Woody is a wounded soul; his aching vocals barely breathe, but offer something soothing. The swirly soundscapes on songs like "Goner" and "Desires of the Lazer Age" highlight space rock edges mixed inside an indie rock work in progress. Sludgy synth beats on "O Fearless One" soar into a dreamy state of mind, and the echoing pain of Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous depicts Fiver's own disdain.
