Dizzy was extremely popular in Europe and visited Paris in '52 and '53. This CD opens with the remaining tracks from a Blue Star session, and includes "Blue Moon." Less than a week later, Gillespie was in the studios for the rival Vogue label. Hubert Fol's quartet was augmented with Bill Tamper and Don Byas. Gillespie opens with a fine blues which he performed on stage throughout his later career. Don Byas's discreet legato accompaniments show the mutual understanding of two giants, which becomes even more evident on the following exquisite instrumentals, all of them played in a relaxed manner with particularly noteworthy solos by pianist Raymond Fol.
