Clarinetist Kenny Davern and the great stride pianist Dick Wellstood always made for an exciting combination. With drummer Chuck Riggs completing the trio, Davern and Wellstood perform fresh versions of eight standards, all quite well known except for "Then You've Never Been Blue." However, the musicians come up with fresh and sometimes surprising variations on the songs including "Rose Room," "Lady Be Good," "Rosetta" and "Beale Street Blues." The music (more classic jazz than Dixieland) is quite accessible, spontaneous and enjoyable. Recorded live in Dec. 1983 at the Maryland Inn.
