On this 18 track CD, Bear Family starts with the sides that are the absolute hardest to find. Carl, who is known as the Father of Bluegrass Gospel, started recording for Mercury in 1947, but switched to Columbia from 1953-55, and it’s those hard-to-find Columbia recordings that are here. Carl’s group, the Rambling Mountaineers, also included Red Rector, who is featured here. Story’s repertoire for Columbia included songs by the best songwriters of the day, including the Louvin Brothers and Moon Mullican. By the end of his tenure at Columbia, Carl was shading toward rockabilly, but it’s for the hard country gospel that Story will be remembered, and the very best is here. Reissued complete for the first time on CD. Features "You've Been Tom Cattin' Around."
