The popularity of the Woody Herman Orchestra was sky high in 1946, voted the number one band in all three leading music Polls from Downbeat, Metronome and Esquire. Gone was the softer pre-war style and with an influx of new members to the band a sharper powerhouse emerged. This was one of Woody's best bands and certainly one of his best line-ups, as it included Shorty Rogers, Pete Candoli, Bill Harris, Red Norvo, Flip Phillips Joe Mondragon and Don Lamond etc. These 'live' recordings were made in 1946 at the University Of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska and at the New Casino Ballroom in Fort Worth, Texas.
