Mostly recorded 'on location' in his record shop by Motor City entrepreneur Joe Von Battle and sold to King Records in the early 1950s, very little of this music has previously been reissued in any format - and almost 50% of the tracks here have never been issued at all. Features several of the pre-Motown Detroit R&B scene's most beloved 'cult heroes,' several of whom - like Eddie Burns and Joe Weaver - also recorded for the city's other big imprints like Fortune and Motown itself. All but two of the tracks are taken from the original tapes that were either sent by Von Battle to King or, in the case of Eddie Kirkland, recorded in Cincinnati.
