Here are two albums of protest folk and blues by singer songwriter Julius Lester, one from 1965 and the other from 1967. They were both originally released on Vanguard and these rare original albums have never been reissued on CD before. Lester was active politically in the underground black protest movement. He was an early member of the Black Panthers (leaving when it was taken over by violent separatists). His beautifully written songs reflect his political concerns. An excellent photographer, the booklet contains examples of his work taken in the American south and Vietnam in the mid-to-late 60s, although the cover shot was taken by David Gahr, a very old friend. The booklet contains an in-depth interview with Lester conducted by Tim Tooher.
