These tracks provide the listener with a rare opportunity to hear an African-American orchestra broadcasting jazz and Latin-based dance music at length and in good sound from a period when, despite the high frequence of nightly live remote or studio broadcasts, there would have been few transcription opportunities for such musicians. That the intended audience was largely white is both a point and beside the point. Indeed, here, South is introduced not as the "Dark Angel Of The Violin," but as the "Angel of the Violin."
