In 1942 Ray Anthony enlisted in the US Navy and was placed in charge of his own Service Band, The Dolphins. The band was assigned to the Pacific War Zone. Concerts were played on land and aboard ships, earning The Dolphins the title "Top Service Band In The Pacific". After discharge in 1946 Ray Anthony formed his own dance orchestra touring the country and performing for many on air radio broadcasts. Some of these broadcasts can be heard on this compact disc. The orchestra was now growing in reputation for top class recording and live performances.
Tommy Mercer, a Downbeat Poll Winner from 1947-1957, is featured on this interesting and unusual album along with other fine vocalists: Dick Noel, Pat Baldwin, Betty Holiday, Ronnie Deauville, Marcie Miller and The Skyliners.
