John Coltrane was and still remains the major inspiration figure in jazz for Dave Liebman. The power, conviction and depth of his work continues to grow over the years. In 1987, Liebman recorded two CDs with Coltrane compositions marking the twentieth anniversary of his passing. He continued these five year anniversaries so again recorded some of these tunes in 1992, but this time in a larger ensemble setting. This collection of Coltrane tunes finds Dave Liebman on soprano saxophone with the James Madison University Ensemble, plus special guests Pete Spaar (bass), Butch Taylor (piano), John D'Earth (trumpet), Howard Curtis (drums), Gunnar Mossblad (tenor saxophone and director), Carol Kniebusch Noe and the JMU Flute Choir.
