(4-CD Set) In January 1951 Miles Davis began a long series of recordings for the Prestige label that became his main recording outlet for the next several years. He made a strong impression playing "Round Midnight" at the Newport Jazz Festival in July 1955, a performance that then led to Columbia Records signing him. With a quintet featuring saxophonist John Coltrane, pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Philly Joe Jones, this 4CD set particularly and accurately focuses on all the sessions this line-up did together in a very short time span, from November 1955 to October 1956: the Quintet's final – and perhaps more powerful – creative spur.
