The music of ace saxophonist, producer, composer and arranger Leo Gandelman is an amalgam of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) and Jazz, created in a very versatile and inventive way. A major artist in his native Brazil, Leo came to prominence internationally with his series of Verve albums which were released worldwide. Bossa Rara gets us quickly in the mood as gentle waves caress the opening track which settles into a laid back gentle bossa groove. Leo can create many moods and is a real master of all the saxophone family - he switches to alto on the catchy Gavião, while changing to baritone on Dançarará. The album's rich variety of Brazilian beats is further enhanced by the stunning arrangement of the Brazilian warhorse Tico Tico.
