Fiddler Matt Brown spent his formative years surrounded by traditional Appalachian music, and it shows. Lone Prairie, his debut album, demonstrates his comfort with the genre as he plays a variety of tunes from the common to the obscure. Joining Matt on the recording are banjo player Paul Brown (no relation) and guitarist and singer Beverly Smith. Though Matt is the lead musician, the band chemistry on this recording is evident. The arrangements are natural and tasteful, and help hold the listener's interest through this mostly-instrumental album.
