This CD captures a memorable night of music with one of the South's most powerful string bands. On February 15, 1984, The Smokey Valley Boys gathered at the historic mountain music radio station WPAQ in Mount Airy, NC to do some recording. The rhythm section, anchored by Paul Sutphin and Verlen Clifton, had lost none of the singular power it had when those two had played in the Camp Creek Boys. Frank Bode now added a third compelling voice to the Smokey Valley Boys' singing section. Paul Brown played the banjo, and Benton Flippen's always exceptional fiddling was becoming more fluid and wildly distinctive than ever.
