It is unknown whether ace bandleader Glenn Miller ever met either George Gershwin or Jerome Kern but George Gershwin certainly met Jerome Kern, he was the rehearsal pianist for Kern’s 1918 musical “Oh! Lady Lady”. Their friendship was sometimes acrimonious and sometimes benign, but both men had a great respect for the others work and it can be truly said that between them they produced some of the finest popular music of the twentieth century. Although Glenn Miller died in 1945 his orchestra carried on under various leaders most notably his old friend and colleague Tex Beneke and it is he who picks up Glenn’s baton to lead the orchestra for the post 1945 recordings on this CD. Enjoy music from the finest band of its day playing the finest music.
