Chet was a big admirer of Miles Davis, who he described as "the most
forward looking trumpet player". Heard here is a stunning tribute from one trumpet master to another, very different trumpet master. "Deep in a Drea", the van Heusen and de Lange classic has become indelibly linked to Chet through the book of the same name by author James Gavin. Chet's repertoire was seemingly inexhaustible as evidenced here by his renditions of "Once upon a Summertime" and "Stella by Starlight" in contrast to jazz originals by Jimmy Heath and Dizzy Gillespie. The tracks were cut in the early sixties during Chet's long period spent in Europe and feature the brilliant playing of altoist Jacques Peltzer, pianist Amadeo Tommasi, bassist Larry Ridley and others.
