(2-CD set)The birth of Glenn Miller’s famous “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue” medleys occurred on December 27th 1939. On that date, to climax a year of triumphs - including a sensational opening and record breaking stay at the Glen Island Casino and topping the bill at Carnegie Hall leaving friend and rival to play (metaphorically!) 2nd fiddle - his band succeeded Paul Whiteman’s on radios prized “Chesterfield Show”. Less their featured number, the announcements and the commercials this left him only twelve minutes for three to four tunes at best. So the ever astute Glenn came up with his four in one medley formula which at a stroke, virtually doubled the amount of tunes he could pack into one show.
