Pianist, composer, and bandleader Charley Straight led one of Chicago’s most popular dance orchestras in the 1920s. Capable of pleasing dancers with both “hot” and “sweet” arrangements, Straight and his band held steady engagements at the Rendezvous Café and the Midnight Frolics.
This disc collects two dozen of Straight’s electric recordings&emdash;most of them reissued here for the first time. The accompanying 20-page booklet features detailed liner notes by Bryan Wright, rare photographs from the collection of Vince Giordano, and complete discographical information for each of the recordings. Recorded 1926-1928. 24 tracks, 73 minutes.
