Oldies INSTRUMENTALS for the YEAR 1960

(3-CD set) This first release from the new Complete 60s label is the start of a decade-long series of box sets (one per year) compiling every instrumental that ever hit the Billboard Hot 100 during this golden age of the popular instrumental. All are presented in the order they peaked on the charts, so you will be able to relive the experience of hearing them the way the world did in 1960. You'll hear how surf music evolved, how rock combos and orchestral arrangers influenced each other, and how easy listening logically emerged as a “genre” in the ‘60s. Most oldies collections reflect the whims of the compiler, but not this one. Complete 60s includes all the pop instrumentals in the order of their chart peaks. Naturally, this means there are some obscure hits that even the most knowledgeable oldies experts have not heard in many years, if ever. However, many of these minor hits were important in the development of instrumental pop music - a fact that becomes clear as soon as they’re heard in their complete and chronological context. Casual fans of instrumental pop music will find an abundance of well-known hits, but Complete 60s offers something else as well: an incomparable snapshot of the breadth and depth of instrumental pop music, in all its permutations, as it existed on the Hot 100 within a single year. The 81 tracks on these 3 CDs with a 28-page booklet are the definitive history of the popular instrumental in 1960. Big hits (41 made the Top 50) and small, these songs never sounded better! And a great value, too - over 196 minutes of music, 14 CD debuts and 44 tracks in true stereo. If you love instrumentals, this set is more than a must - it’s the final word! Complete 60s is a new label dedicated to preserving charted American popular music from the 1960s. Production is handled by many of the same creative folks who lovingly compile those great Eric CDs in the States - including Greg Adams, whose detailed liner notes with biographies of all 53 artists will fascinate you for nearly as long as takes to listen to the 81 songs on this debut Complete 60s box set. The label employs three sound engineers to ensure the highest quality digital sound on every track, and every song is the original version by the original artist, just the way you might have heard it on the radio back in 1960. Stereo was new then, but every song possible appears here in thrilling true stereo.
