Freddie Hubbard is a giant of jazz trumpet. He appeared on many important sessions of the 60s as well as making solo albums for Blue Note, Atlantic, CTI and Colombia. In 1980 he won a Grammy for his CTI album "First Light". From the mid-70s he was a crossover jazz specialist, hitting the R&B charts with his fantastic jazz fusion. The 1981 Fantasy album "Splash" was his final excursion into this territory. Sought after in particular for the collaboration with Jeanie Tracy, 'You're Gonna Lose Me', is a big favourite with the modern soul crowd, but the whole album is a great mix of funk, jazz and soul. Other highlights are Freddie's playing on 'Mystic Lady' and 'Jarri', and the summer-time funk of 'Sister Stine'.
