The national may have been in the depths of the Depression in 1932 but elegance and high spirits still reigned supreme of the Coconut Grove, the fashionable nightclub of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Entertainment residency began with Abe Lyman, followed by Roy West, followed by Gus Arnheim and, finally, in 1932 the baton passed to Arnheim's arranger, Jimmie Grier.
