For his debut recording, acclaimed composer and arranger Steve Owen assembled a gifted group of friends from around the country to bring nine of his masterful works for large jazz ensemble to life. Drawing on the unique voice and ability of each player to frame distinctive musical portraits, he strived for each piece to have a style and voice of its own.
From the orchestral opening passages of the recording, to the funky agitation that is "State of the Union," or the swinging take on Cole Porter's "Everything I Love," Owen's wide-ranging musical interests and unique talents are on full display, as is the musicianship and creativity of his band which includes, among many others, trumpeter Clay Jenkins, saxophonist Todd DelGiudice, trombonists Dave Glenn & Dan Gailey, and drummer Jim White.
