Elmer Bernstein's music is well known. He has composed over 200 soundtracks to released movies and television shows, in addition to a fairly substantial number of unreleased ones. This CD is devoted to ten themes that were composed prior to July, 1962, when it was recorded. Two of the themes are unreleased, the balance include both well known and lesser known material such as "Sweet Smell of Success", "The Man With The Golden Arm", "Radio Hysteria", "Anna Lucasta", "Walk on the Wild Side", "Saints and Sinners", etc. The orchestra consisting of studio stallwarts is conducted by Elmer Bernstein and performs the original arrangements that were actually used for the soundtracks.
Elmer Bernstein was Ava/Choreo's most successful artist and this album devoted to a collection of themes rather than a single soundtrack demonstrates why.
