This 1971 work by Roy Haynes and his group The Hip Ensemble was recorded for Mainstream. The group featured two young players who went on to achieve great success: tenor player George Adams and trumpeter Marvin Peterson - a triumph for Haynes' championing of youth. It is a typical early-70s mix of modal and free jazz, played by a group that is half way between acoustic and electric. The material allows the players to stretch out, pushed along by the veteran drummer.
