"The Music City label of Berkeley, California was known principally for its highly prized quotient of 1950s vocal group releases. Now the contents of the company's voluminous vault have been liberated, doo wop fans and 1950s aficionados of all stripes can rejoice in finally hearing the countless undocumented masters and recordings owner Ray Dobard amassed during his heyday as a pioneering black entrepreneur. "Rock'N'Roll It, Mambo, Stroll It" is Ace's second excursion into the Music City Vocal Group category with the focus on the uptempo side of the genre. Music City doo wop, and groups from the San Francisco Bay Area in general, is known for a bluesier, rougher-hewn tenor; a "street" sound which accurately reflects the tastes of the local black community of the mid-1950s.
