Stax had the MGs; Motown had the Funk Brothers; Fame had The Fame Gang - a crack studio outfit that provided the necessary backing for hundreds of essential soul and pop records made at the Fame studio in the late 1960s and early 1970s. As with the MGs, the players took advantage of studio downtime to lay down their own off-the-cuff funky jams, several of which developed into items strong enough to release. The compilation is named for the second of the groups 45s, a hotly rated item amongst deejays today.
The act's strongest singles sides are included here, along with selections from their Capitol album "Solid Gold" - but the meat of the program is in the plethora of previously unissued cuts such as 'Soul Stutterin'', 'Crime Don't Pay', 'Cannonball' and 'Shoalin'', all brimming with warm, funky and soulful vibes.
