On this CD we have the Glenn Miller Orchestra waxing lyrical about the great songsmith Johnny Mercer whose prolific output is legendary. In many ways he was one of the foremost perpetrators of the swing era. If anyone doubts this, just a look at the track list on this CD alone should convince them otherwise. The Glenn Miller Orchestra leads us through just a few of the various manifestations of Johnny Mercer’s output. On this CD you can hear, firstly the original Glenn Miller orchestra of the late 1930s on eighteen of the first tracks, many of which are unusual and rarely heard. Secondly we hear Glenn Miller’s Army Air Force Band which many consider to be his finest. There are also three tracks with Tex Beneke leading the civilian band after Glenn’s demise and lastly we hear Ray McKinley, Glenn’s original drummer leading a reconstituted Miller band performing one of Johnny Mercer’s greatest hits, Accentuate The Positive. A treat for all Miller fans.
