This compilation brings together 21 rare jazz and "hot dance" selections recorded for Thomas Edison's record label in the 1920s. Most of them have not previously been reissued. This disc features fine performances from such jazz luminaries as Red Nichols, Phil Napoleon, Leo McConville, and Donald Lindley (trumpet); Miff Mole, Abe Lincoln, Chuck Campbell, Sam Ruby, and Herb Winfield (trombone); Bobby Davis, Frankie Ward, and Pete Pumiglio (reeds); Adrian Rollini and Spencer Clark (bass sax); Eddie Lang and Dick McDonough (guitar); Jack Russin, Bill Krenz, and Arthur Schutt (piano) and Vic Berton, Tom Stacks, and David Grupp (drums). The lavish 32-page booklet features in-depth liner notes by Mark Berresford and copious illustrations. Fresh restorations from original sources by renowned engineer Nick Dellow for superb sound. 79 minutes.
