Bunk Johnson embodied the New Orleans jazz revival of the 1940s. His recordings and oral history dramatically updated knowledge of the early style. This is the second and last CD of rare and unissued recordings from the first three years of Bill Russell's American Music label. It includes seven takes that are being issued for the very first time; the rest have never been on general CD release. The booklet contains previously unpublished photos and includes an evaluation of the difficult relationship between Bunk and Bill Russell.
