By the time Frank became a solo artist in late 1942, Rodgers and Hart’s partnership was in its last year. The Rodgers and Hart songs which Frank Sinatra sings on this CD span the years 1944 to 1953. In his book “A Rough Guide To Frank Sinatra” Chris Ingham points out “By 1947 it was clear that the old romantic tunes weren’t hitting the spot, or the charts, quite as they had in the war years, and there were concerted efforts by Sinatra to find a fresh musical approach. The era of Rodgers and Hammerstein overlapped with that of Rodgers and Hart, as “Oklahoma!” had opened at the St. James Theater, New York, on March 31st 1943. We hope you will enjoy listening to Frank Sinatra Singing “Rodgers, Hart and Hammerstein”.
Rodgers himself apparently thought of Sinatra as more of a Hart man than a Hammerstein man. The evidence of this CD contradicts Mr. Rodgers. Frank Sinatra was devoted to both lyricists.
