After the success of our best-selling Elvis Heard Them Here First compilation, it was logical that Ace should turn its attention to recordings that inspired the man once regarded as the British Elvis - the Great British National Treasure that is Sir Cliff Richard. Like Elvis, Cliff began his recording career with a cover version and he's been picking great songs to cover ever since. The original versions of those songs featured here span the first 10 years of Cliff's recording career. We have deliberately shied away from familiar songs that Cliff and many other young up-and-comers covered. We've also narrowed our brief to featuring only songs that Cliff recorded, although he sang others in concert and on radio and TV broadcasts that he didn't cut for release. Cliff showed great taste in choosing to record covers of these originals - several of which were unissued in the UK at the time. Many gave him hit singles, while others were standout tracks on EPs and albums. All but two tracks are new to Ace CD, while those by Richard Barrett, Dick and Dee Dee and Pete Votrian have never been legally reissued before. We feel sure that Sir Cliff's legion of fans will flock to buy this exceptional collection of songs that inspired their hero enough to want to cut his own versions of them.
