Known for their mesmerizing performances, The Jewell Gospel Trio was on the roster of Nashboro Records, 1955-1958. Group member Canzietta Staton later became soul star Candi Staton. Her most cherished recordings were for the Fame label in 1969-1971. Gospel historian Opal Nations retells in the CD notes Maggie Staton-Peebles' memoir, "Before Their Time", a detailed insight in the sisters' up-bringing in the Church of the Living God. The Nashboro tracks are augmented with four bluesy gospel outings, from 1968-1971, by Shirley Ann Lee.
