This CD represents a time capsule showing the state of British jazz in the late 1950’s and was the alternative music form to the then popular Rock ‘n’ Roll which was just starting to emerge from the U.S. Most of the smoky Pubs and Jazz clubs of the period would be crammed with fans all bopping up and down in a dance like no other in an idiom that came to be known as “Trad Jazz” Trad being a shortened form of the word traditional, for most of the tunes were interpretations of American New Orleans style jazz. There are two exceptions both by Lonnie Donegan, who had been a member of the Chris Barber band but broke away to become one of the leading exponents of what was to become known as Skiffle music. The CD features a “live” recording made at London’s prestiguous Albert Hall with a lineup of some of the best British jazz musicians of the day including a rhythm section featuring: Dill Jones (p), Ken Sykora (9), Jack Fallon (b), Alan Ganley (d).
