Les Brown’s Band Of Renown was a significant presence, and introduced to the “swing era” a number of fine vocalists. Amongst them and featured on this CD is Lucy Ann Polk, Jo Ann Greer and Betty Taylor, performing the male vocals Butch Stone and Ray Kellog. The CD comprises of a CBS broadcast from the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California on the 17th August 1951, and two “One Night Stand” programs made specifically for the Armed Forces Radio Service, which during and after World War II was in the business of distributing transcriptions of radio programs to service personnel, stationed mainly in and after the European theatre of war.
The other two programs on this CD represent a slice of this history as they are the entertainment that would have been heard on the previously mentioned radio stations. Program ONS2032 was originally transcribed at the Hollywood Palladium on the 17th of May 1949, and ONS4539 was also performed at the Hollywood Palladium, on an unspecified date in 1956.
