Henry Nicola Mancini was an American composer, conductor, arranger, pianist and flautist. Often cited as one of the greatest composers in the history of film, he won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. His compositions are prolific but he is perhaps best known for his scoring of “The Pink Panther” movie and “Breakfast At Tiffanys”. Johnny Mercer it was who christened the tune, Moon River, and Audrey Hepburn sang the words. The rest is history. There have been over one thousand recordings of Moon River, “But I still wish I’d had Audrey sing it on the album,” said Henry Mancini”. The music on this CD consists of music from the movie “Hatari” and other examples of Henry Mancini’s output including Peter Gunn, Days Of Wine And Roses, Experiment In Terror and the aforementioned Moon River.
