Frank Sinatra began singing Irving Berlin songs while he was serving his apprenticeship as a band singer with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Irving Berlin was perhaps the most prolific and successful composer of popular music in the twentieth century, He was a musical genius and there is an anecdote which illustrates this fact. The song It’s A Lovely Day, Tomorrow was born in a New York taxi during the 1938 Munich Agrreement. Film producer, Alexander Korda, asked Berlin if he had composed a war song yet. Several blocks further on Berlin sang Korda the finished song. Nearly every track on this CD is a standard, part of what you might call the “Great American Song Book” and Frank Sinatra in his inimitable style does justice to each one of them.
