This CD features the singing and orchestral talents of not only Mario Lanza, but Jane Powell, Fernando Lamas, Danielle Darrieux, Doris Day, Elizabeth Doubleday, Mary Mayo, Tex Beneke Orchestra and the Two Cities Orchestra. Nicholas Brodsky was born in Odessa, Ukraine, on April 20th 1905. He studied music in Russia till the 1917 Revolution when his family moved to Budapest. He finalised his studies there, in Rome and Vienna. He concentrated on movie music, composing his first score in Vienna for a Richard Tauber film. In the late 1930s Brodsky settled in England where he was hired to compose music for the 1936 Cochran revue , “Home And Beauty”. Lots of scores for British films followed, the most outstanding being “The Way To The Stars” in 1945. After the war Brodsky moved to Hollywood where he was lucky enough to be commissioned to compose the music for a string of Mario Lanza movies, beginning with “The Toast Of New Orleans” in 1950. Nicholas Brodsky’s last film score was for “The Opposite Sex” in 1956. He died in Hollywood on Christmas Eve 1958.
