Joe Williams, original name Joseph Goreed, (born on the 12th of December 1918, Cordele, Ga., U.S.-died on the 29th of March 29, 1999, Las Vegas, Nev.), He was an American singer known for his mastery of jazz, blues, and ballads and for his association with Count Basie and Lionel Hampton in the 1950s. This CD records a performance he made at the Newport Jazz Festival, Freebody Park, Newport, Rhode Island on the 5th of July 1963, fronting a prestigious line-up consisting of Clark Terry (tp/fl/h), Howard McGhee (tp), Coleman Hawkins, Zoot Sims (ts), Junior Mance (p), Bob Cranshaw (b) and Mickey Roker (d)
