Ralph Flanagan was born on April 7th 1919 in Loraine, Ohio. He became pianist-arranger for Sammy Kaye and other bands and singers. His own band with ex Tommy Dorsey singer Harry Prime was credited with stimulating the 1950s revival of the Glenn Miller sound. this CD is divided into three parts. First come seven Rodgers and Hammerstein songs. All of them except What’s The Use Of Wond’rin’? we’re in the Ralph Flanagan “Rodgers and Hammerstein” album recorded in 1949 for the series, “Fifteen Great Bands Play The Music Of Fifteen Great Composers”. The second part of the CD includes thirteen standards by Rodgers, Jerome Kern , Irving Berlin and other talented composers, like Rudolf Friml who with Otto Harbach wrote Giannina Mia from “The Firefly” which confirms Flanagan’s love of operetta music. Part 3 of the CD consists of six song hits. In March 1950 Ralph Flanagan reacted to the demand for public appearances by his band, by forming his touring band. However, it was his studio band which gave him his start .
