First there was Swamp Dogg, then there was Raw Spitt. Iconic soul maverick Jerry Williams Jr. invented the alias for his protégé and friend Charlie Whitehead, and then proceeded to craft the sublime early '70s southern soul and funk. This CD is the first-ever compilation devoted to Whitehead's work with Swamp. All of it was cut during soul's golden age, mostly in the American South. And all of it treads a similar path to Swamp's own trailblazing recordings from the same era. This CD contains the contents of two albums, plus an assortment of rare singles that never made it to LP when first released. Virtually none of these recordings have been reissued on CD before.
