Before heading for the West Coast in late 1949, guitarist Mundell Lowe was replaced by Tal Farlow. This edition of the trio played a welcome residency in Hawaii in late 1949/early 1950. When they returned to L.A., then bass player Red Kelly left and was replaced by Charles Mingus which seemed a daring move since the bass virtuoso's temper was known by many and feared by even more - but the combo of three highly individual musicians worked well. This CD includes Denzil Best's boppish tune "Move," George Wallington's marvelous "Godchild" and neatly executed standards.
