This volume commences with the last batch recorded by (or sold to) Swing Time Records in 1951, by which time Lafayette Thomas had been elevated to sole guitarist with the band. In 1952, fronting a much tighter band including saxophonists Johnny Parker and Wild Willie Moore, McCracklin began providing recordings to Don Robey in Houston and the resulting body of work was superb, with the whole band acquitting themselves well on originally issued titles like She's Gone and The Cheater and a wealth of tracks which remained unissued until the 1980s. Other tracks include What's Your Phone Number, That's Life, Blues For The People (Melancholy Evening), I Found That Woman (Blues For The People), House Rockin' Blues, Movin' On Down The Line, I Am Tired and many more. |
